The president of the USA, donald trumpassured this Friday that Iran was the one who sought rapprochement with Washington and warned that Tehran will not receive funds contemplated in the recent agreement to end the war between both countries, amid the postponement of nuclear negotiations due to the Israeli attacks in Lebanon.
“We did not meet out of desperation; it was Iran that did it. They are finished! We will let the 60 days (of the second phase of the agreement) pass. “They will not receive any money, not even ten cents!” Trump wrote in a message broadcast by Truth Social, without offering further details.
This Friday, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bagaei, blamed the United States for the latest Israeli attacks in Lebanon and warned that “Iran will take measures to protect its allies”.
Bagaei attributed to the United States the “direct liability” of the Israeli attacks in Lebanon and recalled that the end of hostilities in that country is part of the memorandum of understanding signed by Trump and the Iranian president, Masud Pezeshkianwhich came into effect this Thursday.
His statements come after Israel launched new attacks on Lebanese territory this Friday that caused at least 18 dead.
Iran has been warning for weeks that the Lebanese front is one of the red lines that could derail the agreement with the US if Israel continues attacking Lebanon.
Nuclear negotiations between the United States and Iran, scheduled to begin this Friday in Switzerland, were postponed due to those hostilities.
The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahuinsisted today that “unequivocally”, the Israeli Army will continue to occupy part of southern Lebanon and confront the Shiite militia Hezbollahhours after the US vice president, J.D. Vancesay that Israel has to “respect” the peace process initiated with Iran.
The United States and Iran yesterday postponed a meeting scheduled in Geneva today with the mediators in the negotiations – Qatar and Pakistan – to formalize their memorandum of understanding and begin to address details of a longer lasting peace agreement.
Iranian sources indicated that their delegation suspended their trip at the last minute due to the attacks in Lebanon on the part of Israel, to whom they also demand that the occupation of southern Lebanon cease.
Iran’s decision was communicated to the United States, from where they increasingly publicly broadcast disagreements with Israel.
