– While watching a Toshe video, I read a comment under the YouTube video quite by chance. These are just a few words that could not get out of my head for a long time. “When I’m sad you’re here, when I’m happy you’re here.” And it was this sentence that gave me the inspiration for the song that I immediately knew should be sung by Anna. The image I had in my head was confirmed by her performance at the “Belgrade Spring” festival. The audience did not stop applauding and then it was confirmed to all of us that we have done something good – Grigor Koprov told us.
The original version of the song is in Serbian, with lyrics by DUshan Bacica colleague and friend of Koprov from Serbia who he says quickly recognized his idea. Stefan Petanovski, Anna’s brother, who is one of the most talented guitarists and producers is the author of the arrangement. Anna Petanovska is the author of the text for the new, Macedonian version.
– If the song is written from the heart like this one, the language is not so important. I quickly adapted the text to the Macedonian language. While I was writing and recording the new version of the song, memories and impressions from the performance of “Belgrade Spring” came flooding back to me. It was a truly exceptional experience and I was honored to be there with all the singers. I met a lot of them and they were all very nice. I made acquaintances with other musicians who performed and they all have very authentic singing qualities, so with some of them we often had conversations about singing techniques and other experiences with singing – said Ana Petanovska.
The song does not specifically mention Toshe’s name, but there is part of the verse “Your kisses on my white shirts” , one of his biggest hits by the authors Grigor Koprov and Ognen Nelkovski, arranged by Kokan Dimushevski. Koprov and Nedelkovski are the authors of most of Toshe’s hits from the beginning of his career, such as “Usni na usni”, “Sun in your blonde hair”, “Lie me” and others.
Ana Petanovska also sang at the “Belgrade Spring” festival this year, which was held in April at the “MTS” hall in Belgrade. The renowned festival celebrated its 65th anniversary this year. At that performance, she met Maja Odžaklievska, who was one of the guests. Dragan Mijalkovski, who received a lifetime achievement award, also sang. The “MTS” hall used to be called the House of Trade Unions and it was there on April 17, 1961 that the festival was held for the first time.
At the jubilee concert in honor of the musical greats who performed at the famous festival, Daniel Kajmakoski and other young singers, such as Dusan Svilar, Prince of Vranje, Natasha Mihajlovic, former member of the group “Frajle” and others, performed with songs by Gjorge Marjanovic, Lola Novakovic, Boba Stefanovic, Bisera Veletanlic, Arsen Dedic and others.
In a short time, Ana Petanovska awaits a new musical challenge. She will perform at the “Pearl of the Adriatic” festival on July 18 in Tivat, in a duet with Natasa Mihajlovic, the former member of the group “Fraile” with the song “Under the feet” (Under the feet) which was written by the authors Grigor Koprov (music), Dusan Bacic (text) and Stefan Petanovski (arrangement).
It was at this festival that Ana Petanovska and Dado Topic won last year with the song “Sky” by the same authors.
