Monaco’s annual Saint John’s Day celebrations brought together members of the Princely Family, residents and visitors on the evening of Tuesday, June 23 for one of the Principality’s most cherished traditions.
Their Serene Highnesses Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene were joined by Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella for a religious ceremony at the Palace Chapel. The blessing of the Blessed Sacrament was led by Dominique-Marie David, gathering participants for a moment of reflection before the evening’s festivities.
Following the service, the Princely Family watched the lighting of the traditional Saint John’s bonfire from the Prince’s Palace. The ceremonial fire, a longstanding symbol associated with the summer solstice, remains one of the highlights of Monaco’s cultural calendar.
The celebration continued with performances by La Palladienne de Monaco, whose members performed traditional dances around the blazing bonfire, helping to preserve a custom that has been passed down through generations.
The event attracted a large crowd, with Monegasques and visitors gathering to enjoy the festive atmosphere and share in a tradition that combines religious heritage, folklore and community spirit. The annual Saint John’s Day celebrations once again highlighted Monaco’s commitment to preserving its cultural identity while bringing together people of all ages in a spirit of conviviality.
