An arctic adventure filmed in real time
In the 44-minute long segment, Dr. Phil director of Greenland Energy Company Robert Price and board chairman Larry Swets about the plans in Greenland.
In the feature, Robert Price tells, among other things, about the two planned drillings, which the company expects will take place in the first two weeks of October, when all equipment and personnel are in place in Jameson Land.
Dr. Phil called it an “Arctic adventure” being filmed in real time:
– When the drill breaks into the ground, we will be there. We will show you all this, he says and adds:
– This is a race we cannot afford to lose. The whole world will lay claim to Greenland’s oil, because what happens in Greenland does not stay in Greenland.
Compares to Prudhoe Bay
Robert Price compares Jameson Land several times with Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay, which is at the same latitude as Jameson Land and where large quantities of oil have been found.
– The Prodhoe Bay field has produced over 13 billion barrels of oil and at today’s prices this corresponds to DKK 1.3 billion. dollars, says Robert Price, adding that Jameson Land could even be much larger.
– And we own the entire Jameson Land area; 2 million hectares, he says, and refers to an independent report that has estimated that there may be over 13 billion barrels of oil in Jameson Land.
The Greenlandic population
Dr. Phil asks board chairman Larry Swets about how the oil will affect the Greenlandic population and says, among other things, that “we have heard Trump talk about buying Greenland and everyone has laughed, but there is actually a real value for Greenland in this, right?”

– Aabsolutely. If our drilling shows a huge find of oil, then the significance for the population will be enormous. And that was one of the things that attracted me to this project. As an investor, my goal is obviously to make money, but there is so much more to it. Geopolitical as well as human, says Larry Sweets, adding that most people in Greenland make a living from tourism, fishing and hunting, and that the locals are “tough, peaceful and wonderful people to be around”.
– But there is no local infrastructure and no labor market. There is no equipment, and if something breaks, we have to get new ones ourselves.
The oil must be shipped out into the fjord
Later in the feature, there is talk of how the oil – if it is found in commercial quantities – is to be shipped out of Jameson Land.
– One thing I’ve learned in the oil and gas industry is that you should never underestimate American ingenuity. We are actually only five kilometers from the beach in a fjord, and we will be able to sail the oil out into the open sea, which is just a day’s journey. Much of the market will be in Europe, but it may also strengthen the markets in the United States.
Addicted TV
Dr. Phil sums up at the end:
– Billions of dollars buried under the ice. One of the harshest places on Earth. and one man who thinks he can find them. One can always debate whether he should and what that means for the environment, for Greenland and for the global energy markets. But you can’t debate what he does. He drills. I think it will be addictive to follow.
According to the company’s plan, drilling equipment will be shipped from Montreal via Nuuk and Iceland to Jameson Land in September to begin drilling in the first two weeks of October.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has not yet given permission for the company to do anything other than put the equipment ashore. They thus do not have permission to start drilling for oil at this time.
