Prime Minister Edi Rama held an important meeting in Paris this Monday with the French President, Emmanuel Macron, in an official visit that confirms the growing rapprochement between Tirana and Paris. Invited to the Elysee Palace for a working lunch that lasted more than two hours, Rama and Macron discussed security challenges in Europe, the European Union enlargement process and the perspective of the Western Balkans.
The meeting comes at a key moment for Albania, as the country aims to accelerate negotiations for membership in the European Union. The focus of the talks was also the new approach to the integration process, a reform that has been publicly supported by the Albanian Prime Minister. Rama and Macron also confirmed the will to deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries, while they also discussed the latest developments in the region and coordination within the NATO alliance.
The meeting in Paris is part of an ongoing dialogue between the two leaders, who in recent years have intensified contacts and political cooperation, positioning France as one of the most important supporters of Albania’s European journey.
So, President Macron has posted several photos with a message about this meeting, underlining that France reaffirms its support for the integration of Albania. “The very good dynamics of relations between Albania and France in the fields of innovation, education and higher education, culture and tourism, proves our closeness. We wish to give this relationship a new impetus, while simultaneously continuing to strengthen our economic cooperation and in the field of defense. France reaffirms its support for the European integration of Albania and for the continuation of the necessary reforms to move forward on its journey towards the European Union”.
