Residents of Silver Lake can expect are celebrating a major boost to public sanitation following the rehabilitation of the community’s washroom facility, a project valued at more than EC$33,000.
The initiative, led by the Rotary Club of Dominica in partnership with the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force’s Community Policing Team, has transformed the decades-old structure into a modern, hygienic space that will serve families for years to come, according to a Rotary Club release.
Originally built in 1982, the facility had long been in need of upgrades. Its restoration underscores a shared commitment to improving living conditions and promoting dignity and health in one of Roseau’s most vibrant communities. At Thursday’s handover ceremony, government officials, police representatives, and community members gathered to mark the occasion.
Minister for National Security and Legal Affairs, Honourable Rayburn Blackmoore, praised the collaboration as “a model of how partnerships can deliver tangible benefits to citizens.” Parliamentary Representative for Roseau South, Honourable Chekira Lockhart-Hypolite, highlighted the importance of investing in community infrastructure, while Commissioner of Police Lincoln Corbette reaffirmed the police force’s dedication to community-centered initiatives.
Rotary Club President emphasized that the project was about more than bricks and mortar: “The rehabilitation of this facility is not just about infrastructure—it is about dignity, health, and community pride.”
The event drew strong community participation, with residents expressing gratitude for the improved amenities. Speakers noted that the project reflects the broader mission of the Rotary Club of Dominica, which since its chartering in 1974 has been part of District 7030, spanning from St. Kitts to Suriname and comprising over 3,200 Rotarians across 75 clubs.
With the Silver Lake washroom now revitalized, the community looks forward to cleaner, safer, and more dignified living conditions—an achievement that stands as a testament to the power of collaboration.
