Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginiene resigned today, and the newly formed coalition has nominated the chairman of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Mindaugas Sinkevičas, for the post of Prime Minister, reports LTV.
The new government coalition was formed because the Social Democrats, the largest political force in the Seimas, this month due to long-standing disagreements decided to terminate the coalition with the populist party “Nemunas Ausma”.
Ruginiene revealed that the leader of the social democrats, Mindaugas Sinkevičas, should have become the prime minister already last year, when his predecessor, Gintauts Paleckis, resigned.
“What is happening now should have happened last year,” Ruginiene said.
