Florence (Tuscany), June 23, 2026 (SPS) – The political groups represented in the Regional Council of the Italian Province of Tuscany officially announced the establishment of a joint parliamentary group to support the just Sahrawi cause, in an important step that embodies the Italian political consensus of all shades regarding the inalienable right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination and independence.
The announcement of this solidarity initiative came through the efforts of the “Alliance of Greens and the Left” (AVS), and with the broad participation of regional advisors representing the major Italian parties, both the majority and the opposition, including: the Democratic Party, the “Brothers of Italy” party, the “Five Star Movement,” and the “Casa Reformista” bloc.
In their words during the announcement ceremony, those in charge of the initiative stressed that the Sahrawi people are still facing asylum and suffering while awaiting a just solution that will do justice to their struggle and end the illegal Moroccan occupation of their lands. The Italian parliamentarians stressed the need for the international community to assume its historical and legal responsibilities to ensure respect for international legitimacy, and to hold a self-determination referendum to enable the Sahrawi people to achieve their freedom.

The event witnessed the presence and participation of Brother Abdullah Mohamed Salem, representative of the Polisario Front in the province of Tuscany, who conveyed the greetings and appreciation of the Sahrawi authorities for this advanced step.
The representative of the Front expressed his deep thanks to all political formations in the province, stressing the great importance of continuing this political and institutional support to accompany the legitimate struggle of the Sahrawi people until they achieve their full rights.
The joint group includes an elite group of prominent regional advisors, namely: the Alliance of Greens and the Left: Lorenzo Valcki, Massimiliano Gimienti, and Diletta Vaianni, and from the Brothers of Italy Party: Diego Petrucci. From Casa Reformista: Francesco Casini, from the Five Star Movement: Irene Galletti, and Luca Rossi Romanelli, and from the Democratic Party: Andrea Vannucci, Serena Spinelli, Alessandro Franchi, Matteo Trapani, and Mario Poppa.
It is noteworthy that the establishment of this joint parliamentary group is a new link in the chain of historical and institutional solidarity that links the Tuscany region to the Sahrawi issue, and comes to strengthen international efforts aimed at enabling the Sahrawi people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and build their independent state.
