The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime dismantled a criminal organization that was stealing lithium batteries from substations and mobile phone antennas and then resold them through online classifieds at lower prices.
The scammer, a Greek native of Kazakhstan, posted ads on well-known websites and marketed batteries at “bargain” pricestargeting mainly buyers who would use them in photovoltaic installations. In some cases, they were also made available through personal contacts.
The investigation revealed that the criminal organization consisted of at least four members: three battery removers and a shoplifter.
Their action began, at least, in April 2023.
During this time, 105 cases of theft have been solved in 10 regions of the country, specifically in:
- Euboea: 48
- Attica: 24
- Fthiotida: 11
- Boeotia: 7
- Magnesium: 4
- Larissa: 4
- Corinthia: 4
- Ilia: 1
- Phocis: 1
- Argolida: 1
