Water-related tragedies in which six minors have died are being reported from Spain and Italy this weekend.
The first accident happened near Tarragona in Catalonia, reports Croatia Hina. Despite the warning, raised yellow flag due to high waves, six children decided to jump into the sea from the wall.
Only three of them managed to swim ashore, the rest had to be saved by rescuers. The 12-year-old boy died at the scene despite attempts to revive him. Two 13-year-olds were transported to the hospital, where they later also died, the regional emergency services announced.
The administration of the Catalan city of Tarragona declared three days of mourning after the tragedy.
A car with nine young people landed in a canal
Italian Ansa reports on the tragedy that happened early this morning in the vicinity of Milan. Three 17-year-olds, two boys and a girl, lost their lives after the car in which they were traveling with six other people – a total of nine young people were crammed into the car – drove into the Villoresi canal in Senago, near Milan.
The driver, a 19-year-old Italian citizen, is being investigated for causing a traffic accident with a fatal outcome. According to the data known so far, his breathalyzer test was positive. Ansa states that the amount of alcohol in his blood was three times higher than the legal limit.
Carabinieri, firefighters and divers arrived at the scene and helped rescue the young people from the vehicle. Upon arrival, seven young people were pulled from the car. Six of them were handed over to medical staff, and one could no longer be helped. During the subsequent lifting of the vehicle and the search for the missing in the Villoresi canal, the firemen found the other two young passengers who were dead.
It is understood that the driver of the Audi A2, with nine young people in it, was driving on the Villoresi canal road in Groane Park, which is not open to cars at all.
