US President’s Senior Adviser for Arab and African Affairs, Massad Boulos, said on Sunday that participants in the four-party meeting held in Cairo, attended by the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, reaffirmed their support for the roadmap proposed by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the efforts of the mission’s head, Hanna Tetteh.
In a post on X, Boulos described the meeting, which he attended alongside Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Saturday, as a “productive meeting.”
He explained that discussions focused on “a range of regional issues, as well as the importance of building on President Trump’s recent achievements and his ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and enhance security and stability across the region.”
Boulos added: “We also reaffirmed our cooperation in supporting Libya’s unity, sovereignty, and long-term stability, and expressed our support for the roadmap put forward by UNSMIL and the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative, Hanna Tetteh, including the recommendations emerging from the UN-facilitated structured dialogue.”
He further noted that participants welcomed the progress made by Libyan authorities and stakeholders across the country, including agreement on a unified national budget, increased coordination among national institutions, and the joint participation of eastern and western Libyan forces in military exercises conducted by the US Africa Command (AFRICOM).
According to Boulos, the meeting also stressed that continued progress toward unifying Libya’s political, economic, and security institutions is essential for creating the conditions necessary to hold nationwide elections, achieve lasting stability, and secure a more prosperous future for all Libyans.
Following the meeting, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf said in a statement on Facebook that the gathering came within the framework of ongoing consultation and coordination among the participating parties on a number of regional issues and crises.
Discussions included developments in Libya, with participants emphasizing the importance of supporting efforts to preserve the country’s unity, respect its sovereignty, advance the political process, and unify Libyan state institutions.
