    Weather Update: Red Alert! Heavy to very heavy rain forecast in state, control room opened in Kolkata


    Kolkata: Yellow and orange alert and 10 districts of South Bengal including Kolkata Red alert issued In North Bengal. It is raining intermittently in South Bengal including Kolkata. Rain will increase over the weekend, continuing through Tuesday. The amount of rain will increase over South Bengal from tomorrow to Tuesday. The plains and hills of North Bengal were affected by heavy rains. Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar Heavy rain forecast. Very heavy rain may occur Jalpaiguri in Cooch Behar.

    Yellow alert in 10 districts of South Bengal including Kolkata

    According to Alipur Meteorological Department, yellow alert has been issued in 10 districts of South Bengal including Kolkata. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in South Bengal. But this disaster will continue till next Wednesday. Thunderstorms will continue. It is raining intermittently in South Bengal including Kolkata. Rain will increase over the weekend, continuing through Tuesday. Calcutta Municipality is active in controlling the situation. Control room has been opened, monitoring is going on. Suction machines have been kept in standby mode in many streets of Kolkata. Additional pumps have also been provided to control excess water. Municipal Commissioner Smita Pandey is currently monitoring the whole matter.

    Red alert in North Bengal

    On the other hand, the plains and hills of North Bengal are affected by heavy rains. Balasan river is overflowing with rain overnight. A temporary bridge broke down at Dudhiya in Karshiyang. Siliguri-Mirik is currently disconnected due to bridge collapse. The landslide occurred near Mahanati in Karshiang, near National Highway No. 110. Apart from this, several small and big landslides have occurred on the hill. Still there is a red alert in North Bengal. Heavy rain is forecast in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri. Scattered very heavy rain likely over Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Alipurdua.

    What is the Chief Minister saying?

    In a press conference on this day, the Chief Minister said that it has been raining heavily since last night. … Heavy rains have caused a lot of damage. Among the biggest losses, a bridge was completely washed away. River conditions are still under control. Mekhliganj in Cooch Behar is slightly above danger level. And the reports of damage are in Siliguri municipal area. …the land slide here is minor. …that’s cleared up. Small and big landslides have occurred in several places of the mountain. Balasan river is overflowing with rain overnight, the water level of Teesta has also increased. The temporary bridge was broken in Karshiyang’s Dudhiya.
