The cost of the new White House banquet hall that US President Donald Trump is having built is 600 million US dollars or about 77 billion Icelandic krónur, half of which comes from taxpayers.
Trump has previously said the cost would be $400 million and that private parties, including himself, would cover all costs.
The cost increased by 400 million
The Washington Post first reported, but the media has obtained a copy of the budget prepared by the contractor of the banquet hall for the Trump administration.
When Trump first introduced the ballroom idea last year, he said the cost would be about $200 million “taxpayer free.” It is now known that taxpayers will contribute about 300 million US dollars or about 38 billion ISK.
During the construction of the hall, the east wing of the White House was completely demolished. The first lady’s offices were housed there.
