The National Bureau of Meteorology confirmed today, Sunday, that the heat wave that the northern regions of the country is witnessing during these days falls within the normal seasonal phenomena, and is not an exceptional case. It is expected to record a gradual decline in temperatures starting Tuesday, with the decline being more pronounced starting next Thursday.
The head of the Diwan’s Meteorological Services Department, Zuhair Rami, explained in a statement to the Algerian News Agency that the rise in temperatures recorded since the end of the week in the northern regions is a normal occurrence during this period, noting that this weather situation is due to the concentration of an air high in the upper layers of the atmosphere in the south of the country and its extension towards Europe, in addition to the presence of a relative air depression at sea level, especially in the western coastal areas.
The spokesman added that this weather condition is known as a “heat dome,” which is a phenomenon represented by the retention of a mass of hot air in the upper layers under the influence of high atmospheric pressure, which leads to a significant increase in temperatures for several consecutive days.
According to the same source, temperatures recorded high levels, sometimes reaching 45 degrees in the western and central interior regions, while exceeding 40 degrees in a number of coastal states.
Regarding the development of the weather situation, the National Meteorological Office expected that temperatures would gradually decrease starting Tuesday, before declining significantly starting next Thursday, when they would range between 28 and 38 degrees across the various northern states, which will contribute to the return of the weather to more moderate levels compared to the past days.
Zuhair Rami indicated that the heat wave advisory will remain in effect until Monday, and includes a number of states in the north of the country.
