With the onset of warmer weather, ants become an increasingly serious problem – a few crumbs on the kitchen counter or an open door are enough for them to sneak into your apartment or house. However, it is not always worth rushing to the store for an insect repellent – there are many natural ways to repel these uninvited guests, writes “Unian.net”.
Peppermint oil is one of the best ant repellants because it confuses the insects.
Ants rely on scent trails, so strong odors can make it difficult for them to follow their routes. Peppermint oil can be particularly effective for this purpose.
Simply mix a few drops of the oil with water and then spray it on windowsills, doorways, and areas where insects enter. You can also place cotton pads soaked in the solution on problem areas.
However, it is important to remember that peppermint essential oil can be harmful to your four-legged pets – dogs and cats.

You can also try white vinegar and lemon juice – the smell of this mixture can also confuse ants.
Vinegar diluted with water can be used as a spray on areas where ants often appear. Rubbing windowsills and doorways with lemon juice can also repel insects.
Coffee grounds are also a good and proven technique – due to their strong smell, many people use them as a natural ant repellant.
Coffee grounds can be placed in small bowls near windows or doors or scattered around the terrace. The scent fades over time, so it’s worth refreshing them every few days.

However, the best solution is prevention – do not leave food scraps in areas accessible to insects. They should be removed regularly and food should be stored in closed containers.
