Which entities could compete for the PVEM in 2027?

On the eve of the “reconciliation table” being established between BrunetteLabor Party (P.T.) and Green Party, headed by Citlalli Hernandez; THE UNIVERSAL overtook him in his Under Reserve this Tuesday that the leaders of the PVEM They will pressure to ensure that, at least, three of their profiles are considered with ample possibilities to be the candidates for governor among the positions that will be disputed in the 2027 midterm election.

The ruling alliance has been shaky after the president Claudia Sheinbaum will send a first proposal electoral reform which did not suit – in its original terms – either of Morena’s two satellite parties, since it sought to reduce public financing to parties and reduce the number of multi-member representatives in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic.

In addition to that, in a second attempt to pass the electoral reform, the PT refused to endorse that the president could appear in the 2027 electoral process with the possibility of advancing the revocation of mandate (which is legally set to take place in 2028). “We will not support any proposal that is regressive in terms of democracy,” representatives of the Greens and Labor stated on several occasions.

At the same time, Morena’s leadership endorsed – at the beginning of March – its internal rules to determine how they will elect their members. candidates towards the 2027 election. From the Morenista leadership it was said, on repeated occasions, that if representatives of the PVEM and the PT sought to be candidates in coalition had to adjust to these rules, where participating in the open survey and the anti-nepotism clause.

Parliamentary leaders of the Green Party and the PT mentioned, after that, that in their parties they have well-positioned profiles that could compete – with ample chance of even beating Morena – in at least four states. At the moment, within the PVEM, there is only talk of three cards to put on the table.

Green Party sources confirmed to THE UNIVERSAL that three states will be brought to the “reconciliation table” with Morena to ask: San Luis Potosi, Zacatecas and Quintana Roo. In them, the Green not only has the possibility of competing and winning, but of even beating Morena if they do not go in alliance.

In the case of San Luis Potosí, the definition of the PVEM is clear in favor of the senator Ruth Gonzalezwho is also the wife of the current governor of that entity, Ricardo Gallardo. That is the impediment that Morena has before – the anti-clause.nepotism—to be the candidate. Morena’s statutes were modified in May 2024 to establish such a lock.

Regarding Zacatecas, the Green sees the possibility of nominating the coordinator of its party’s deputies, Carlos Puentewho in addition to having years of territorial work in the state, has not ruled out his interest in being a candidate for governor.

In that sense, the PVEM has more possibilities of sliding the candidacy of Carlos Puente, since on Morena’s side the senator Saul Monreal He has the same anti-nepotism clause of the party against him, for being the brother of the current governor David Monreal.

As for Quintana Roo, the Green Party could support two profiles formed in its party, loyal to it, but who are currently active in Morena due to the closeness with Governor Mara Lezama: the mayor of Cancún, Ana Paty Peraltaand to the senator Gino Segura.

Both profiles have an advantage over the preference of Morena’s hardliners: the former Customs Director Rafael Marín Mollinedo, a character close to former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, but marked by the fiscal huachicol scandal, for which he finally left office.

In the event that the efforts to negotiate the candidacy of Ruth González in San Luis Potosí fail and the Verde decides to go alone, the negotiation of three applications as an alliance is not reduced to two. Queretaro It could be the ace up the sleeve where the PVEM has favorable numbers, even above Morena.

In the state currently governed by the PAN member Mauricio Kuri, the federal deputy of the Green Ricardo Astudillo appears even above Santiago Nietopossible candidate for Morena, in some polls. Added to this is that Astudillo wanted to be a candidate for mayor of Querétaro capital in 2024 and they did not let him, the municipality was finally won by the PAN.

Starting this Wednesday, meetings will begin between the National Election Commission of Morena and representatives of the Labor Party and the Green Party to try to iron out differences and achieve unit heading towards the 2027 election, where all the seats in the Chamber of Deputies.
