While shipping organizations are reticent, Trump says ships carrying oil are on their way out of the Strait of Hormuz.
president of the united states, Donald Trump writes Monday on Truth Social that ships are “starting to move” out of the Strait of Hormuz.
Several of them are loaded with oil, says Trump, who has previously said that the important maritime trade route will open on Friday, when an agreement between Iran and the United States is expected to be signed.
That there was an agreement on an agreement was announced on Sunday evening.
BBC Verify – the fact-checking department of the British media – writes on Monday afternoon that two cargo ships are on their way out of the strait according to ship tracking services.
Although the strait has largely been closed during the conflict between the US and Iran, there has continued to be limited traffic through the strait. In the past week, two to five ships daily, reports the company Windward, which provides maritime intelligence, according to the BBC.
Trump does not say anything about how many ships should be on their way out of the strait on Monday.
– Ships, many of which are loaded with oil, are starting to sail out of the Strait of Hormuz, writes the American president.
Shipping organizations have urged ships to exercise restraint and have missed information on safe routes for sailing, writes the AFP news agency.
The Strait of Hormuz lies between Iran to the north and the United Arab Emirates and Oman to the south.
The strait is of great importance to the world’s oil trade. About a fifth of the world’s total oil consumption passes through the strait under normal circumstances. More than 20 million barrels of crude oil, condensate and fuel passed through the strait on average daily.
