MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – The carriers had chosen an unsafe route, Deputy Chairman of the Gomel Oblast Executive Committee Dmitry Aleinikov said on the air of the Belarus 1 TV channel, BelTA has learned.
“A group of children from Children’s and Youth Sports School No. 2 of Rechitsa District was organized for a trip focused on recreation and football training. The group was assembled by parents and coaches. For the trip, a contract was signed with private carriers: an individual entrepreneur and a private enterprise registered in Rechitsa District and Kalinkovichi District. A total of 88 people were traveling on the Rechitsa-Gelendzhik route,” Dmitry Aleinikov said.
According to him, the carriers chose an unsafe route that passed close to the conflict zone. “The group departed from the city of Rechitsa at 5.30. It should be noted that the coaches and instructors who helped organize the children’s vacation were on annual leave and were traveling with their families,” he added.
The bus carried children both accompanied by their parents and traveling under powers of attorney authorizing travel abroad. The trip was financed with the participants’ personal funds, the route was independently selected by the private carrier.
