The US president’s dream of a ballroom in the White House currently costs just under four billion Danish kroner.
Donald Trump’s project to build a ballroom in the White House will cost up to 600 million US dollars – an amount corresponding to more than 3.8 billion Danish kroner.
The US president has previously estimated that the cost would be around 400 million dollars.
This means that the ambition for the ballroom will be 200 million dollars more expensive.
This is what The Washington Post newspaper writes, according to the AFP news agency, on the basis of a cost estimate prepared for the Trump administration by the contractor Clark Construction, who was hired for the task.
The Trump administration maintains that the price will be around 400 million US dollars.
– President Trump and generous American patriots (including private donors, ed.) are funding the ballroom for approximately $400 million, which will be a safe and fitting place for presidents for generations to come, White House spokesman Davis Ingle said in a statement.
Media: Some invoices are paid with public funds
Trump has repeatedly emphasized that the ballroom will not cost taxpayers so much as a cent.
According to The Washington Post, some of the invoices were paid with public funds, citing AFP.
When Trump first presented the idea of the ballroom, he said it would cost 200 million US dollars.
Last year, Trump had the east wing of the White House torn down at short notice and without approval from Congress in favor of the plans for a ballroom of 8,360 square meters with room for 1,000 guests.
The 80-year-old Republican has previously touted the ballroom as a crucial addition to the White House, and as a gift to the United States as well as a lasting symbol of his time as president and as a mark of the US capital.
