Panathinaikos announced that they parted ways with head coach Ergin Ataman. The green-white club said goodbye to Ataman, who had a contract for another year, with the image he shared on his social media account.
While 4 trophies (1 Europa League, 1 Greek Super League and 2 Greek Cups) were included in his farewell post, the 60-year-old head coach used the following statements in his statement side by side with president Dimitris Giannakopoulos:

“I had a great time in Athens, in this country. I am very proud to have worked with Pana. I am very happy to have brought these four trophies to the club. Especially the Europa League championship. I will remember these days, the fans, and the support of the Panathinaikos family throughout my life. I am also very proud of the contribution I tried to give to Greece and Türkiye. I am also very pleased with all the friendly people I met in Greece. I thank you very much for these 3 years we spent together. Now it is time to open a new page for all of us.”
‘WORKING WITH ATAMAN WAS LIKE A DREAM’
Panathinaikos President Dimitris Giannakopoulos said, “Working with Ergin was like a dream. He will always be the favorite of European basketball for me, this will never change. I had a dream, I wanted to bring a European League championship to the club. We were in 17th place, I was thinking, ‘How will I bring Ergin to Panathinaikos?’ Then I convinced him to come. He proved his success, took us from 17th place to the top of Europe in one year. In other years, we always fought, “We are both warriors fighting the system. I am very proud of these 4 trophies. If there was no war, we would have won more trophies. We are both young, let’s hope we will be healthy. We don’t know what will happen in the future.” he said.
Panathinaikos fans wrote thank you messages to the Turkish head coach under the club’s post.
Ergin Ataman, who served in the Greek team for 3 seasons, won the Europa League once, the Greek Super League and the Greek Cup twice with Panathinaikos.
