In light of the high temperatures forecast for the coming days, the Ministry of Education has reiterated its guidelines and recommendations to school administrations on Thursday, aiming to ensure the safety of both pupils and staff. This information was confirmed to RTL by the Ministry itself.
The Ministry emphasises that schools provide a supervised environment where pupils are consistently monitored by adults, enabling them to cope with the exceptional heat. As a result, the guiding principle is that lessons should continue as usual. However, educational activities are to be adapted as necessary, depending on local temperature conditions and the specific characteristics of school buildings.
School principals have received recommendations outlining preventive measures and possible adjustments to daily routines. They have also been provided with a factsheet from the Ministry of Health, detailing best practices for dealing with high temperatures, which can in turn be distributed to parents.
Any decision to suspend classes entirely can only be made in extreme circumstances on a local basis – by municipal authorities for primary schools, or by secondary school leadership for the high schools.
