Klemen Kadivec was already convicted in the first instance for the murder of Daniel Božić and the attempted murder of Žarko Tešanović, but now he faces another 15 years for drug smuggling and trafficking. Photo: Bojan Velikonja

The prosecutor proposed 110 years in prison

At the trial of 14 defendants in the Kavaški clan case, the prosecution finished its closing arguments. The maximum sentence was proposed for the brothers Klemno and Blaž Kadivac, 15 years for the former and 12 years for the latter. On the defense side, they had only one final word.

    June 10, 2026, 2:44 p.m

    Mojca Furlan – Russian

The prosecutor proposed a total of 110 and a half years in prison for the 14 defendants Jože Levašič in the case of the Kavaški clan. He proposed the maximum possible sentence of 15 years Klemna Kadivacfor his brother Blaza but three years less. They are expected to pay a further one hundred thousand euros in collateral fines, and both of them will be deprived of almost 5.4 million euros of illegally obtained property benefits.

The prosecutor also mentioned Klemno’s message to his partner that he was going to Dubai and also that he offered a judicial police officer one million euros for help in escaping.

For Drejc Kovač proposed 10 years in prison and a 25,000 euro fine, for Danijela Mišljenović nine years and 20,000 euros, also nine years for Elvis Kolenovićwho would have to pay another 25,000 euros, and the court would confiscate 81,200 euros of illegally obtained money. He proposed for eight years Dejan Marijanović (plus a fine of 25,000 euros and forfeiture of 90,000 euros) and Stojan Babić (25,000 euro fine and forfeiture of 52,950 euro), and a year less for Miša Krčić (and a 20,000 euro fine). Levašić thinks six and a half years is a suitable sentence for Dragan Todorović (10,000 euro fine and forfeiture of 22,750 euro), six years for Srđan Petrović (a fine of 9,000 euros and forfeiture of 30,250 euros), and five for Marko Radoman (5000 euro fine), Slađan Karimović (5000 euros), Danko Vukojević (6000 euros) and Darko Podraščanin (6,000 euros and withdrawal of 3,750 euros).

    A million to escape

He also submitted a motion to order the detention of the brothers Kadivec and Kovač. The reason: suspicion. The brothers would be arrested if they were released in another criminal case (the murder of Danijel Božić and the attempted murder of Žarko Tešanović), and Kovač if they were indeed found guilty in this case. Levašić emphasized that Blaž Kadivec and Kovač had already escaped in the past, luckily they were caught abroad – Kadivec in Spain, Kovač in Croatia. He also drew attention to Blaž’s message to his brother’s partner that they had “a lot of money” and that he had neither a partner nor children in Slovenia. So he has nothing to do with his homeland. The prosecutor also mentioned Klemno’s message to his partner that he was going to Dubai and also that he offered a judicial police officer one million euros for help in escaping. For Kovač, he said that he had financial options to escape, and the police found identity documents in another name with their photo on all three.

The hearing started with a complication. When Levašič began his closing remarks last week, Todorović and Petrović were absent. This time they collaborated again, Todorović via video conference right from his workplace, the truck. Since the latter wanted to supplement his defense, judge Tomaž Bromše returned the proceedings to the main hearing phase. Then, in order not to be deprived of anything, they all listened to Levašić’s speech once more (they received it in written form). To make the prosecutor’s job easier, they listened to the recording. And to make it go faster, they played it at a higher speed. Despite this, it lasted just under two hours, after which Levašić continued “live”. Another two hours.

Harsh towards the penitentiary and the police

He commented on the sentencing proposals by saying that he was prepared to consider certain mitigating circumstances at the pretrial hearing in the case of a confession. But no one accepted his offer, nor did they negotiate. Now, after the end of the criminal proceedings, he claims that there are no such circumstances, not even the temporal distance between the crimes. Namely, they cover the time from the end of 2018 to May 2021, when the group allegedly procured at least 534 kilograms of cocaine, two tons of cannabis, 30 liters of amphetamine base, ten kilograms of heroin, 96 kilograms of hashish and other drugs in the Netherlands, Spain and other countries. It should be sold at home and abroad.

On the defense side, due to time constraints, only the closing argument has been heard so far Tibor Hrenwho represents Mišljenović. Skesana Darko Nevzatović called him a very controversial person. He told the police that he felt threatened by the Caucasian clan he was a part of. But by cooperating with the police, he exposed himself to even greater danger, said the defense attorney. He was also very critical of the work of the police, who allegedly abused Nevzatović and worked illegally. He proposed to the court to go beyond that and “say to the police: enough”. According to Hren, the sky communication between the accused collected in the file does not prove guilt, nor does anything else, which is why he proposed to the court to acquit Mišljenović. Defense attorneys and defendants will continue with closing arguments on July 8.
