Jesper Blomqvist was 20 years and 134 days old when he made his World Cup debut against Cameroon at the 1994 World Cup in the USA.
Now Lucas Bergvall has taken over that record – by a measly two days. Bergvall, 20 years and 132 days old, stepped in when Sweden beat Tunisia 5–1.
Has Blomqvist been in touch?
“I don’t know, I haven’t had time to check my phone,” Bergvall said.
He had to settle for a very successful substitute appearance – but had no comment on not being selected to start the World Cup opener.
“We trust Graham Potter to put out the best team in every game. I’m ready whether I come on or start. Everyone is involved, whether you come on or start. Everyone contributes,” Bergvall said.
