Correspondent of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PSSE) for the post-supervision dialogue with Montenegro, Liliana Tangi (France, ALDE), concluding her informative visit to Podgorica from June 9 to 12, welcomed the continued commitment of the Montenegrin political class and society to European values and standards in the area of the rule of law, human rights and democratic institutions, which was already noted during previous informative visits.
This was announced by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
“Discussions on accession to the European Union have entered a dynamic final phase. While Montenegro is preparing to take over the chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, chapters related to fundamental rights, justice and security are the subject of intensive work with the aim of their legislative and administrative harmonization. Key laws related to the independence of judges and prosecutors, internal affairs and national security services are currently under review,” she said.
As stated, the Coraporter was received by the President of Montenegro, the Prime Minister and the President of the Assembly.
She also met with several members of the Government, the Montenegrin delegation to the PSSE led by its president Nađa Laković, representatives of all parliamentary clubs, the president of the Constitutional Court and heads of several administrative bodies, as well as representatives of ethnic minorities and non-governmental organizations operating in areas of interest to the Council of Europe.
“In September, the co-reporters will present their detailed observations to the Monitoring Committee, which should decide whether to recommend to the Parliament to end the post-supervision dialogue with Montenegro, to which the country has been subjected for more than ten years,” it concludes.
