“Haroldito has been a ringleader within the criminal organization along with his father, his uncles and his grandfather,” indicates the US indictment against Lorenzana Terraza.
For years, the structure was directed by Waldemar Lorenzana Lima and his sons, who consolidated a drug trafficking network with operations in the east of the country and international connections.
“Haroldito assumed control of the criminal organization after the capture of his father Haroldo Geremias Lorenzana Cordónhis uncles Eliu and Waldemar Lorenzana Cordónyour aunt Marta Julia Lorenzana Cordónand his grandfather Waldemar Lorenzana Lima” indicates the accusation.
According to investigations, this void allowed Haroldito to assume a central role in the organization and continue the operations of the Lorenzana clan.
The document states that, under his command, the structure maintains its headquarters in Zacapa and operates in different regions, where it coordinates the transfer of drugs to the north of the continent.
“The Lorenzanas facilitate the transportation of cocaine to various Mexican drug trafficking groups for its eventual transfer to the United States and other destinations,” the report states.
According to the indictment, the group transports tons of cocaine from Central and South America to Guatemala, from where it continues its route to the United States.
Furthermore, the file indicates that the organization has maintained links with criminal structures in Colombia, Honduras, Venezuela, Guatemala and Mexico.
As part of its operations, the group would have generated income of more than US$10 million in one year, resulting from the transfer of at least 1,500 kilograms of cocaine.
The authorities also point out that the structure uses violence as a mechanism of control and expansion.
Retaliation against officials, threats to security forces and actions against rivals are part of the clan’s strategy, according to the document.
Control of drug transfer and these actions would be in charge of Lorenzana Terraza, with the support of Steven Ovaldino Lorenzana Alvarengaaka “The Chipi”; Manuel Lizandro López González, alias “El Pinche”; Gilberto Quileb, alias “El Sapo”; Allen Mendozaaka “The Carnitas”, and other members.
Recent raids and accusations
On April 13, the Public Ministry (MP) and the National Civil Police (PNC) carried out raids on homes linked to the Lorenzana structure, following the disappearance of Claudia Pamela Rivas.
The procedures were carried out in properties located in La Reforma and Huité, Zacapa, where the authorities identified the residences of the alleged suspects, who are escorts for the drug trafficking structure.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office against the Crime of Femicide, investigations link members of the clan with the disappearance of Rivas and the death of other women in that department.
The Specialized Criminal Investigation Division identified 31 properties related to the indicated structure of drug trafficking activities and violent events.
During the operations on April 12, the Police captured three people, seized weapons and ammunition, and confiscated Q20 thousand.
