The world’s top water skiers gathered on Lake Roquebrune this weekend for the fourth edition of the Monaco Water Ski Cup, delivering two days of elite competition in one of the sport’s most picturesque settings…
A field of 45 professional athletes, including multiple world champions and leading figures from both the men’s and women’s rankings, competed across slalom and tricks disciplines.
Held under ideal conditions on Saturday after a challenging opening day of wind, the event attracted some of the biggest names in water skiing, including two-time world champion Freddie Winter, Will Asher, Thomas Degasperi and women’s stars Giannina Bonnemann Mechler and reigning world champion Neilly Ross. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II attended the finals, underlining the event’s growing prestige on the international calendar.
Organisers said their ambition from the outset was to bring the strongest field possible to Monaco while also inspiring the next generation of local athletes. The competition once again provided young skiers from the Principality with a rare opportunity to train and compete alongside the sport’s elite.
The slalom event, considered the flagship discipline, saw athletes tackle six buoys while progressively shortening the tow rope in a test of precision, speed and control. Meanwhile, the tricks competition challenged skiers to perform as many flips and rotations as possible within a 20-second run.
With record participation in the women’s field and growing international recognition, organisers have already confirmed that the fifth Monaco Water Ski Cup will return next year.
