Many who grew up in Yugoslavia still look nostalgically at objects that remind them of some other time, when drinking coffee and socializing with neighbors were an indispensable part of everyday life.
One user of the X platform posted a photo of an unusual object from that period with the question: “Do you know what this is for?”, which soon caused numerous reactions and comments.
While the younger users tried to guess what kind of device it was, the older ones had no dilemma and recalled memories from the past.
– Do I know?! How many times as a child I ground coffee in this. Nice memories, one user wrote.
– To exercise biceps at the age of seven, another joked.
– For gossip. Two neighbors sit down, talk about it and gossip, added the third.
It is, of course, a manual coffee grinder, once an indispensable item in almost every household throughout the former Yugoslavia.
At the time when coffee was mostly bought in beans, it had to be ground before preparation, so the hand grinder was an integral part of the kitchen and daily habits of many families.
Today, coffee is mostly bought already ground or electric machines are used for grinding, which is why it is not unusual that younger generations often do not recognize this somewhat forgotten item and guess what it was once used for.
