Among the European countries, Croatia took the first place in terms of people feeling the safest when walking alone at night. The rating is based on data from the Numbeo platform on the subjective feeling of safety of the population.
The sense of security is one of the important factors affecting the quality of life in the country. At the same time, citizens’ sense of security is always consistent with official crime statistics won’t come.
Experts say that such indicators are influenced by factors such as the lighting of city streets, the state of infrastructure, reports of crimes in the media, and the visibility of the activities of law enforcement agencies.
According to Numbeo, among European countries, people who feel the safest when walking alone at night live in Croatia. This country scored 75.93 points.
Slovenia (73.74 points), Iceland (71.55 points), Montenegro (70.46 points) and Estonia (69.69 points) are also at the top of the rating.
In contrast, France is listed as one of the least safe countries in the world. This country is at the bottom of the ranking with 35.23 points.
Belgium (40.79 points), Great Britain (41.71 points), Ireland (42.23 points) and Belarus (42.87 points) are among the countries with the lowest indicators.
Russia is near the bottom of the ranking with 51 points, sandwiched between Albania and Germany.
According to the authors of the study, this rating does not reflect the official level of crime, but the perception and daily experience of the population about personal safety.
