A goal from Maxi Araújo, a Sporting player, allowed Uruguay to draw 1-1 with Saudi Arabia on Monday, June 15, in the first round of Group H of the 2026 Football World Cup.
In Miami Gardens, the Saudis scored first, in the 41st minute, through Abdulelah Al-Amri, but, in the 80th minute, the ‘Leonine’ player restored equality, in his last action of the game, as he was immediately substituted.
In the Group H classification, Uruguayans and Saudis remain in the top two places, with one point, on par with reigning European champions Spain and debutants Cape Verde, who ‘cancelled’ each other out in Atlanta.
