Azat village of a fire in a military shelter Gor Margaryan, one of the accused, is being interrogated in the case today. It has been 1.5 hours since he read his written statement.
He claimed that after the fire, 45 liters of gasoline in 9 5-liter containers were found in the parking lot of the shelter, therefore Yeghishe Hakobyan’s claims that the 5-liter container was half full or that he used it with a coffee cup are groundless.
Gor Margaryan also claims that high-ranking officials of the General Directorate of Security were well aware of the need to provide fire fighting equipment at the places where the soldiers are stationed, but no public criminal prosecution has been initiated against any of those responsible for the fact that the places where the soldiers are stationed were not equipped with them and especially with fire extinguishers.
Referring to the summary of the property, Margaryan said that there is no mention of the allocation of fire fighting means, including fire extinguishers. Therefore, according to Margaryan, the head of the utility service of the military unit, Marlen Sargsyan, who is also accused in this case, was aware of the lack of fire extinguishers at least 40 days before the tragic incident.
According to Margaryan, after getting acquainted with the order of the head of the General Staff during the preliminary investigation, it was obvious to him that the issue of providing fire fighting equipment was assigned to the rear commander of the military unit commander, but the requirements of the order were ignored.
Gor Aghekyan’s nerves gave way to the deputy commander of the troop’s rear and utility service, who was accused in this case, and reacted very sharply to Margaryan’s accusations, saying, “Talk a little more about your duties.”
Let’s remind that Gor Margaryan was charged that he, occupying the position of the commander of the engineer sniper platoon of the 75937 military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense and being obliged to conduct inspections and ensure the fire safety of the buildings occupied by the platoon, installed fire extinguishers in all types of dwellings and established strict control for the observance of fire safety rules. However, Gor Margaryan did not fulfill his duties.
