Retired Argentine international player Juan Sebastian Veron gave advice to his country’s national team coach, Lionel Scaloni, related to the star Lionel Messi and the 2026 World Cup.
Argentina will compete with the Algerian national team in America this Wednesday, for the first round of the group stage of the World Cup competition.
Veron said in his latest statements reported by the Argentine press: “We have to be careful about Messi’s participation in the World Cup. I am not sure that he will be able to participate in all the interviews, due to his advanced age (he will be 39 years old on the 24th of June). I think that we must help him, and he must accept the help. This is also difficult.”
Juan Sebastian Veron, 51 years old, knows the World Cup well, having previously participated in the 1998, 2002 and 2010 editions. In a mid-field position. In the last edition, he played alongside Messi, under the command of the late coach Diego Maradona.
The player, who was known as “The Pirate,” added: “Right now, Julian (Alvarez), Lautaro (Martinez) and Enzo (Fernandez) are enjoying a great level. Then we have to look at the young players, for example Nico Paz is in good shape now, and so is Flaco Lopez.”
Argentine national voter Lionel Scaloni had preferred to leave Messi as a substitute against Honduras, and then included him as a substitute starting in the 70th minute in the Iceland match. In order to avoid the stress and injury that “Al-Barghout” suffered, prior to these two friendlies on the 7th and 10th of June.
