The State of Qatar, represented by its permanent delegation to the International Maritime Organization, participated in the meetings of the Technical Cooperation Committee (TC 76), which was held at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in the British capital, London, during the period from 8 to 12 June 2026.
This participation comes within the framework of the State of Qatar’s keenness to support the efforts of the International Maritime Organization aimed at enhancing technical cooperation and building the institutional and human capabilities of member states, in a way that contributes to developing the maritime sector and achieving sustainable development goals.
During its meetings, the committee discussed a number of topics related to the implementation of the organization’s technical cooperation program, and mechanisms to support member states in developing their maritime capabilities, enhancing training and building competencies, in addition to following up on the implementation of technical projects and initiatives aimed at raising levels of maritime safety and security and protecting the marine environment.
During the meetings, the delegation of the State of Qatar stressed the importance of ensuring the safety and security of maritime navigation, protecting sailors, and ensuring the safe movement of commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz and its surrounding areas, stressing the importance of preserving freedom of navigation and the right of transit passage in accordance with international law, in addition to supporting international efforts aimed at providing assistance to affected ships and sailors at sea.
