Two proposals for specific changes in the primary school must be considered by a working group.
A working group consisting of key actors in the primary school field in the form of organizations and municipalities must look at changes to the primary school proposed by Demokraatit’s group in Inatsisartut.
The working group is Naalakkersuisut’s idea, and a majority in the Committee for Culture, Education, Research and Church supports it.
One proposal from Demokraatit is about setting a ceiling of 18 students in classes in primary school, and the other is about abolishing written step tests in 3rd and 7th grade.
Instead of implementing the proposed changes immediately, Naalakkersuisiut wants to set up a working group which will investigate the possibilities of reducing class sizes where there is a need. The educational and economic consequences must be described.
The working group must also assess a more flexible organization of teaching and analyze the current tests at the various grade levels.
In the end, the working group must come up with proposals for adjusting rules and legislation, and the work must be compiled in a report to be presented at the autumn assembly in 2027.
Naalakkersuisut’s proposal for a working group was adopted by Inatsisartut on Tuesday.
