Voltamp’s ‘WaTenha’ initiative gains strong momentum as SMEs, decision makers unite to advance supply chain localisation

Muscat: In a significant stride for Oman’s industrial ecosystem, Voltamp Energy SAOG successfully hosted a landmark enabler event under its flagship “WaTenha” localization initiative, marking a key milestone in its journey toward building a more resilient and self-reliant energy supply chain.

The event represents the continuation of a series of structured engagements—including interactive sessions, collaboration meetings, and factory workshops—aimed at creating clarity and driving execution across strategic investment opportunities. These opportunities focus on critical components currently imported by Voltamp, with the objective of unlocking high-value localization within Oman’s energy sector and strengthening regional industrial resilience.

The gathering brought together a powerful cross-section of stakeholders, including SMEs, technology providers, investors, and—critically—national institutions that shape policy direction, investment frameworks, and industrial development in the Sultanate.

The WaTenha initiative is being executed through a well-defined roadmap designed to convert localization ambitions into tangible industrial outcomes. The event marked a decisive transition into an execution-focused phase of this journey.Key highlights include:

    • 84 companies officially registered under the program, representing six countries

    • All the 10 strategic products/components identified had participation.

    • Each opportunity attracting more than 15 qualified bidders, reflecting strong industry confidence and competitive capability across the ecosystem

This strong participation underscores the growing momentum and commercial viability of Oman’s localization agenda, as well as the readiness of global and regional players to invest in local manufacturing capabilities.

Speaking at the event, Voltamp Energy CEO Mohammed Ajmal Basha emphasized that localization has become a strategic imperative rather than an optional direction.

“To protect and strengthen our industrial base, building local capabilities is no longer just an option—it is a strategic necessity,” he stated.

Voltamp also presented a structured and transparent evaluation framework for assessing technical and commercial proposals submitted by participating companies.

A clear implementation roadmap was outlined, including defined timelines for:

    • Final evaluation and selection of partners

    • Selection criteria and

    • Signing of agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs)

These agreements are intended to enable high-value localization with a clear ambition of achieving up to 100% domestic manufacturing integration for selected components in Oman.

The event featured active participation and presentations from key national institutions, including the Oman Investment Authority (OIA), Distribution Code Review Panel (DCRP), HYDROM, Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), NAMA Group, and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (RIYADA).

These presentations provided valuable insights into projected energy demand, regulatory frameworks, approval mechanisms, investment incentives, and long-term industrial growth opportunities in Oman.

A highly interactive panel discussion also brought together representatives from the Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR), Invest Oman, Madayn, and RIYADA, alongside Voltamp leadership. The session enabled open dialogue, addressing industry questions and clarifying pathways for participation in the localization process.

By bringing regulators, investors, utilities, and manufacturers onto a single platform, the WaTenha initiative has successfully fostered a high level of institutional alignment. This collaborative approach is helping streamline regulatory pathways, reduce execution barriers, and create a more enabling environment for local manufacturers and SMEs.

The strong response from industry participants reinforces the commercial strength of the initiative and reflects the increasing appetite for domestic manufacturing in Oman’s energy sector.

With its structured approach, strong institutional backing, and active private sector engagement, the WaTenha initiative is emerging as a benchmark model for public-private partnerships (PPP) and In-Country Value (ICV) creation.

Ultimately, it reinforces Oman’s broader ambition of transforming into a competitive, self-sustaining regional hub for advanced energy manufacturing and industrial innovation.
