On June 9, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Thongsavanh Phomvihane sent a message of condolence to Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ma. Theresa Lazaro following the severe earthquake that struck southern Philippines on June 8.
In his message, the Lao Foreign Minister expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and extensive property damage caused by the disaster, extending heartfelt sympathy to the Government and people of the Philippines, particularly the bereaved families and those affected.
On behalf of the Government and people of the Lao PDR, he conveyed sincere condolences and expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Philippine Government, the Filipino people would overcome the challenges posed by the disaster and achieve a swift recovery and reconstruction of the affected areas.
