A police officer has reported that more than $57,000 worth of gold jewellery was stolen from her handbag while she was on duty at the Central Police Station earlier this week.
According to a police report, the officer said that at about 8.15 a.m. on Monday she placed her handbag on a desk in the Charge Office room at the station before leaving to carry out her duties.
She told investigators that she returned to the room at around 4 p.m. and discovered that several items of jewellery were missing from her bag.
The stolen items were listed as a Bubble Gucci gold chain valued at $45,000, a Bubble Gucci gold hand band with the initials “KK” valued at $9,000, and a gold ring with a white-coloured gemstone valued at $3,800.
The total value of the stolen jewellery is estimated at $57,800.
Crime Scene Investigators processed the handbag for forensic evidence, and investigators have requested CCTV footage from the station as part of the probe.
