The former mayor of Karposh, Stevco Jakimovski, is scheduled to report to the “Skopje” prison in Shutka on July 2. This date, as announced by the Criminal Court, was set by a judge for execution of sanctions from the Criminal Court Skopje, who issued him a referral act for serving the prison sentence of one year which became final after the Court of Appeal confirmed this part of the sentence.
Given that Jakimovski was in custody for five months, and the investigation into the illegal construction of the municipal building has been ongoing since 2018, Jakimovski should serve seven months in prison.
The former mayor called the court’s decision “political” and claimed that it was made in order not to run for mayor of the municipality in the new elections that he predicted after Sotir Lukrovski went on sick leave.
Stevco Jakimovski was legally sentenced to one year in prison
According to the Law on Execution of Sanctions, the reference act should be delivered to Jakimovski personally. He then has the right to appeal to the criminal council, but the appeal does not delay the execution of the decision.
Jakimovski can request a postponement of the execution of the sentence if he is undergoing hospital treatment and several other grounds provided for by the Law.
So far, Jakimovski has not ruled on the reference act for Shutka.
