The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) has confirmed that the death of visiting cruise crew member Ziyuan Wang was the result of a tragic accident following a post mortem examination conducted on June 9, 2026.
In a statement issued by the RSCNPF, authorities reported that Mr. Wang’s body was discovered on June 1 after an extensive search and recovery operation. He had been reported missing on May 27 while hiking on Mt. Liamuiga.
According to the findings of the post mortem examination, Mr. Wang died from injuries sustained after falling from a significant height. Investigators found no evidence of foul play, with the results indicating that his death was consistent with an accidental fall.
Police noted that Mr. Wang was located in a ravine situated a considerable distance from the established hiking trail.
The RSCNPF also expressed its appreciation to the numerous agencies, organisations, and volunteers who assisted in the search effort. Among those acknowledged were the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force, the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services, the RSCNPF Training School, the St. Kitts Forestry Unit, the St. Kitts and Nevis Red Cross Society, the Ross University K9 Unit, experienced hikers, and members of the public who participated in the operation.
Special thanks were also extended to Royal Caribbean Cruises and its local shipping agent, Delisle Walwyn & Co. Ltd., for their cooperation, support, and assistance throughout the ordeal.
The Force concluded by offering its deepest condolences to Mr. Wang’s family, friends, and colleagues, noting that its thoughts remain with them as they mourn his loss.
