The Community Policing Unit of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force (CDPF) reports steady progress in Silver Lake, showing how consistent engagement and teamwork can help strengthen a community over time.
A CDPF release shared that in August 2025, the area received a visit from the Deputy Chief of Police, along with subordinate officers, members of the Community Policing Unit, and officers from various departments. During that visit, they met directly with residents, opening up conversations focused on building trust and tackling issues affecting the community.
By December 2025, those efforts had taken on a more festive and personal touch. A Christmas Social was organized for young people in the area, bringing together support from Gloria Walsh, Fire Officer Relda Andre, community members, and generous sponsors. The event reached fifty children, ranging from just 6 months to 12 years old, each receiving gifts and sharing in a day filled with “joy and smiles”, said the release.
The momentum carried into the new year.
In February 2026, the Community Policing Unit partnered with the Rotary Club, which stepped forward to fully fund the rehabilitation of the community’s public convenience facility. Around the same time, a Community Policing Committee was established in Silver Lake, aimed at improving coordination, strengthening relationships, and enhancing overall safety.
Work to uplift the community’s appearance is also ongoing. Through collaboration with Harris Paints, plans are in motion to repaint an apartment building and remove graffiti—efforts expected to boost both the look of the area and the sense of pride among residents.
In addition, on Thursday, April 16, 2026, the refurbished washroom facility was officially handed over to the people of Silver Lake. Officials say that the project itself grew out of a simple foot patrol carried out by the Community Policing Unit alongside other ranks of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force. After identifying the need, discussions with the Rotary Club led to a full partnership, with the organization committing to fund the entire initiative.
Looking ahead, the focus is also on the next generation. Preparations are already underway for a youth mentorship programme in Silver Lake, designed to provide guidance, build character, and help steer young people toward positive and productive paths.
“Together, we are not just policing communities—we are building them,” says the CDPF.
