Fans around the world are eagerly waiting for: When will Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are getting married? According to US media, it should happen on July 3rd. The latest insider information predicts a celebration at an unconventional location. Taylor and Travis want to say “I do” at Madison Square Garden.
“It is completely unconventional or not – it suits them,” says Caterina Pelosato, head of the Wedding Network Switzerland and AWEE (Academy Wedding & Event Education). Taylor has played several concerts there in the past and Travis has a connection to the arena as an athlete.
Arenas are particularly popular with fans
“The concept is not entirely unknown; weddings are often held in stadiums in Switzerland and in neighboring countries. “It’s mostly fans who would like to get married there,” explains the expert, who was an event and wedding planner for a long time.
Pelosato believes the location has special meaning for the couple. The question of whether a wedding in a stadium is unromantic cannot therefore be answered in general terms. “The way Taylor Swift carries herself, romance and individuality are certainly important to her,” says the expert.
What do you think of the idea of getting married in an arena like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are reportedly planning?
Madison Square Garden allows for a lot of privacy
According to TMZ, security and privacy were the main considerations when choosing the arena. Madison Square Garden has no windows, which protects it from onlookers. There is also a large underground car park, which means that the star guests and the bride and groom can arrive and depart undisturbed. «I suspect that privacy wasn’t the winning argument because the location is in the middle of New York. “Private is something different,” says the expert.
Maybe they chose the arena because of the acoustics? “The arena also offers a lot of space and is equipped with everything from a kitchen to toilets,” says Pelosato. However, the atmosphere is a disadvantage. “A festive atmosphere must be created in the arena with loving decoration.” Another sticking point: advertising on the boards. “For a ‘normal’ couple it wouldn’t be cost-effective to remove them, but for Swift and Kelce it would probably only be a small expense.”
Are weddings getting bigger and more spectacular?
As TMZ writes, Taylor and Travis occupy the arena for three days. The rent costs them several million dollars. An insider reports that the 36-year-old did not receive a discount – even though she has played concerts at Madison Square Garden several times in the past. They are setting new standards when it comes to “dream weddings”.
“Many people want a celebration like the VIPs have. Couples feel like they HAVE to get married so big. There are certain expectations of the day,” says the planner. She is critical of the trend: “I think getting married is an intimate and personal decision and this should also be reflected in the celebration. It’s about the couple and saying yes.”
Instead of emulating the last celebrity wedding, a couple should go their own way. «Personally, I always find the small celebrations that I am able to organize or accompany the most beautiful. They are peppered with emotional and unique moments that cannot be planned.”
