Storms covered Slovenia, the most problems for now in Gorenjsko
The storm system predicted by meteorologists has already reached Slovenia and is spreading across the country from the west.
“A strong storm line with strong gusts of wind and hail is currently moving towards Štajerska and Pomurje,” they wrote on the Facebook profile of the portal Neurje.si. “In the next one to two hours, we advise increased caution in the mentioned areas. During the passage, heavy downpours, frequent lightning strikes, strong thunderstorms and hail are possible.”
Strong storms have caused the most work for firefighters in Gorenjski so far. According to the data of the Administration for Protection and Rescue of the Republic of Slovenia, the most varied were in the municipalities of Naklo and Škofja Loka, where eight interventions were recorded each, followed by Radovljica with six and Kranj with five reports. Hail the size of golf balls is also being reported from around Škofja Loka.
Firefighters also intervened in the areas of Tržič, Preddvor, Šenčur, Gorenje vas – Poljan, Komenda and Kanal ob Soča. They were removing the effects of strong winds and downpours. There are no reports of anyone being injured in the storm.
Weathermen’s forecast
“In the evening and during the first part of the night on Thursday, stronger storms with downpours, gusts of wind, locally hail are also possible in northern Slovenia,” the meteorologists warned. Arso has issued an orange warning, which is valid for all of Slovenia until midnight, and for the east of the country after midnight and until morning.
Tomorrow will be quite cloudy at first, especially in Primorska, there will still be some rain or storm. It will partially clear during the day. The north-easterly wind will blow, in Primorska there will be a gale. The highest daily temperatures will be from 18 to 21, in Goriško and Slovenian Istria up to 25 °C.
Prospects
Friday will be mostly sunny with a fresh morning. In the afternoon, mainly in the north and east, it will become moderately cloudy.
It will be quite clear on Saturday. In the afternoon in the hilly world, a shower is not entirely out of the question.
Danger of overflowing rivers
Individual rivers in northeastern Slovenia rose to high flows last night and are currently declining, but may rise again today. According to hydrologists, rivers in other parts of the country will also rise in the evening and night on Thursday. With locally stronger downpours, individual torrential streams and smaller rivers, especially in the northern half of Slovenia, can quickly grow to large flows and overflow. Stagnation of rainwater is also possible in these areas.
Mura and Drava will continue to rise on Thursday and may spill over in the area of frequent floods. On Thursday, the Sava will also rise in the middle and lower reaches, while rivers elsewhere in Slovenia will decline. On Friday, rivers will decline everywhere in Slovenia, according to Ars.
