Taylor Swift He surprised his followers by confirming his participation in Toy Story 5 with an original song titled I Knew It, I Knew Youwhich will be available starting this Friday.
The announcement put an end to weeks of speculation among the artist’s fans, who had detected multiple clues related to the Disney and Pixar film. The promotional campaign included a digital countdown, billboards and various messages on social networks that fueled theories about a possible collaboration.
The new song was written and co-produced by Swift alongside her frequent collaborator Jack Antonoffalso marking a return of the singer to the country sounds that defined the beginnings of his career.
According to Disney, the song is inspired by Jessie, the popular toy cowgirl introduced in Toy Story 2. The company highlighted that the song connects with the personality and evolution of the character within the franchise.
“I have always dreamed of writing for these characters that I have loved since I was a girl. five year old girl watching the first Toy Story,” Swift said when announcing the project through her social networks.
The artist accompanied the message with visual references from the cover of the song, which confirmed the rumors that had been circulating since April about her possible participation in the fifth installment of the successful animated saga.
For his part, director and screenwriter Andrew Stanton praised the singer’s work and assured that his understanding of the character was immediate.
“His connection with Jessie was undeniable. The song is deeply linked to Toy Story and from the first time I heard it I felt that I had always belonged to that universe,” he said.
The song will also be available on a special edition CD that will include acoustic and piano versions, a strategy that could boost its chart performance in the weeks following its release.
Anticipation around the collaboration grew after Swift’s followers detected a series of hidden clues related to the number 13, considered the singer’s lucky number, as well as references to the initials “TS” in promotional materials for the film.
Toy Story 5 will hit theaters on June 19 and, although at the moment it has not been confirmed whether Swift will have any other participation in the film, fans hope that the artist still has more surprises related to the expected premiere.
