The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pachecosaid this Tuesday that he has not made any proposal to modify the labor reform bill currently being processed in the National Congressspecifically regarding the issue of layoff.
The legislator emphasized that, since the Chamber of Deputiesthere is no intention to promote changes to this acquired right of Dominican workers.
“I responsibly clarify that I have not made any proposal to modify the bill of labor reform. Therefore, in the Chamber of Deputies, unemployment is not touched and there will be no modifications on this matter,” he expressed.
Likewise, he reiterated that the commitment of the legislative body is to guarantee an open, democratic and respectful discussion process of the institutional framework, listening to all the sectors involved in the process of studying the legislative piece.
Pacheco affirmed that the National Congress will continue to carry out its work with transparency and responsibility, always prioritizing social stability and respect for the rights of Dominican workers.

Regarding the piece, the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) assured that the bill that modifies the Labor Code, approved in first reading by the Chamber of Deputies, ignores the proposals that seek to rationalize and make regulatory and economic burdens more flexible.
The entity said that the new project creates a lack of balance in labor fines for MSMEs and suggests an inflexible regulatory framework for teleworking that, among other things, could discourage the generation of formal jobs in this format.
Meanwhile, labor lawyer Luis Vílchez has also expressed complaints with the approved project, pointing out that if a person is being investigated by the authorities or has been detained, the current Labor Code requires the company to suspend them throughout the judicial process until a final ruling; Furthermore, the reform makes the suspension more flexible in these cases, allowing their reinstatement if they are available to work.
