Residents of Palermo, annoyed by the closure of the streets ahead of the wedding ceremony of the newly married couple, a British-Kosovo singer-songwriter Dua Lipa and a British actor Callum Turnerthey put up signs “Palermo is not for rent, our square is not your living room”.
The citizens of the Sicilian capital rejected the mayor’s claim Robert Lagalle that the event would bring “a big return on advertising for Palermo” and set up their protests on barricades on the street leading to the city’s modern art gallery, where Lipa and Turner are holding a ceremony on Friday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the paparazzi, mostly from British tabloids, are busily scouting Palermo for potential locations for Friday night’s main event.
Lipa, 30, and Turner, 36, the star of Strange Beasts, tied the knot earlier this week at a registry office in his native London, and chose the capital of that colorful island in the heart of the Mediterranean for their reception.
