The presidential candidate of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Francisco Javier García, considered the reaction of officials to the statement by former President Danilo Medina that the Government lacks a plan for the global economic crisis inexplicable.
The former minister said that the position of the president of the PLD was sincere, detached and without the interest of obtaining political benefit from the situation that the Dominican Republic and the world are experiencing.
“I really don’t understand why some officials have reacted that way to Danilo Medina’s statements in the sense that the government authorities lack a plan for the crisis; he has limited himself to telling the truth, because that plan does not yet exist,” said the also member of the PLD Political Committee.
Furthermore, he stated that from the government level and the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) what they must do is act with the political maturity that the moment demands; while adding that given the fact that “it is that political group that directs the destinies of the Dominican people until August 16, 2028, it is responsible for the initiative regarding the development of the aforementioned plan.”
García said that, in particular, he suggested to the Government on February 22 that, given that a global crisis was approaching, after the joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran, it be attentive to developing an alternative plan.
He himself indicated that although he advanced some ideas, unfortunately, two months after the warning, the Dominican Republic still does not have a viable tool in that regard.
