KUWAIT CITY, Jun 6: The Directorate General Authority of Civil Aviation temporarily closed the country’s airspace early Saturday as a precautionary measure following what it described as exposure to a “hostile Iranian aggression” involving missile and drone attacks.
In a statement carried by the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the authority said the airspace was closed from 4:15 a.m. to 6:15 a.m., during which emergency procedures and contingency plans were activated to ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and aviation infrastructure.
During the suspension, 11 flights operated by Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways were diverted to nearby airports as a safety measure, while operations were managed in coordination with relevant authorities.
The authority later confirmed that air traffic resumed at 6:15 a.m. after assessing the situation and determining that conditions had stabilized and the immediate risk had passed.
It also noted that flights diverted to airports in Dammam and Riyadh were later able to return to Kuwait International Airport following the reopening of airspace and normalization of operations.
