The President of the Democratic Party of Socialists, Danijel Živković, met with members of the European Parliament, Kathleen van Brempt, vice-president of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) parliamentary group in the European Parliament, as well as Marta Temido and Matjažo Nemec, members of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament.
Thanks to the visit of a representative of a related, sister group in the European Parliament, Živković emphasized the importance of regular communication and the presence of high officials of EU institutions in a crucial year for the European integration of Montenegro.

As announced by that party, speaking about the current socio-political events in Montenegro, Živković pointed out that the parliamentary opposition, after being led into a political crisis by the irresponsible moves of the ruling majority of the country, when Montenegro needs it the least, proposed a platform that aims to overcome the crisis and agree on key issues on the way to the EU.
The President of DPS emphasized that the purpose of the platform is to, through dialogue between the government and the opposition, overcome the parliamentary crisis, preserve the electoral and legal system, and create fair election conditions while continuously fulfilling obligations from the EU agenda.
Živković stressed that dialogue is necessary, pointing out that the DPS has shown responsibility towards the state’s interest on several occasions before.
S&D Vice-President Van Brempt emphasized the importance of the current moment, bearing in mind that today Montenegro is hosting an important gathering of European leaders, which once again confirms its strategic importance and European perspective.
She emphasized that today, along with the EU-Western Balkans Summit, representatives of progressive political forces also gathered to jointly send a strong message of support for the further European integration of Montenegro.
Van Brempt assessed that through genuine dialogue, broad consensus and political courage, Montenegro can achieve success in the process of joining the European Union. This would further confirm that the enlargement policy – as one of Europe’s key peace projects – is a concrete reality and not just a promise, concluded Van Brempt.
In addition to President Živković, the head of the Club of Deputies Andrija Nikolić, political director Mihailo Andušić, and secretary for international cooperation Jasmin Bojadžić attended the meeting.
