“I couldn’t see or hear such a sight and sound. I can see how the tornado lifts and carries the neighbors’ gazebo.
Trees were uprooted, the park was destroyed, the roofs of people’s houses were torn off, electricity cables were cut. The picture is terrible. I think the losses will be considerable,” Brigita, who witnessed the disaster in Antanav, told the Lrytas portal.
“The village suffered a lot of damage. Roofs were torn off, trees were uprooted. I saw a little of it myself. My yard was not touched, but I could see through the window how pieces were spinning in the air, roofs were torn off,” said Sonata.
Kliuvos and Kaunas
After a storm hit Kaunas on Friday, the readers of What’s Happening in Kaunas also report on a tornado that may have passed through the city. The residents of Aleksot were the most affected – trees were uprooted here, and the roofs of at least several houses were torn off.

Several thousand were left without electricity

Recommendations and warnings about the storm were announced by Meteo as early as Friday afternoon.
“It will rain in many areas this evening and the next night, in some places heavy and with thunderstorms. Wind gusts can reach up to 15-17 m/s in some places during the thunderstorm.
Recommendations: be very careful on the road, choose a safe speed and distance – heavy rain reduces visibility and the road surface becomes slippery. If you are outside when the lightning starts, find a shelter, do not be in an open area, near single trees, metal poles, do not run,” the post reads.
Captured the whirlwind
As already mentioned, it seems that the beginnings of a tornado have been recorded in Lithuania. Netizens recorded them near the village of Genėtini (Panevėžys district) and Kupiškis district.
“Although I didn’t mention it in the previous post, there is a bit of a possibility of a tornado today. As you can see in the video, a similar formation was recorded after all.”
Sometimes very low-moving ragged clouds can remind you of a tornado. Judging by this record, it looks more like a tornado of the lowest category to me”, – meterologist Gytis Valaika commented on one of the records.
The weekend will be unpleasant
As forecaster Elvyra Latvėnaitė announced on Thursday, due to the cyclone named Peggy, we will have extremely rainy and turbulent weather in Lithuania this weekend.
“On Friday, the clouds of this atmospheric front, watering, will slowly travel far across Lithuania to the east. During the day, from the south, another atmospheric front will reach the southern and eastern regions of Lithuania, with considerable rain and thunderstorms.
What’s more, on Friday evening, a small cyclone turned on the wavy front of the atmosphere and “dives” across Lithuania to the north. So, on Saturday night and morning again, heavy rains (with thunderstorms) will water a lot of things. On Saturday, the wind from all directions, strong during thunderstorms, will swirl around Lithuania. So Saturday’s weather will not please you either.
Sunday and the beginning of next week will be calm, with weak winds, but the rain will still pour some more and others less on Sunday and the beginning of next week, and the fog will often spread at night. The Lithuanian summer will continue – the days will be pleasantly warm (slightly above 20 degrees Celsius), the nights will also be quite warm, and only when it clears up or the fog clears up, it will be a bit cooler,” the forecaster announced on her account.
Monday, June 8 it will rain at intervals, during the day with thunderstorms, at night the fog will spread in the western regions. The wind is unstable 3-7 m/s. 12-14 at night, 20-25 during the day, 17-19 degrees on the coast and in the northeast.
Tuesday, June 9 briefly, with thunderstorms, at night mainly in the south, south-east corner. At night, there will be fog in many places. The wind is unstable 3-7 m/s. 11-13 at night, 20-24 during the day, 15-19 degrees on the beach.
On the night of Wednesday, June 10, without rain, the fog will spread in some places, in the morning and during the day, rain clouds will move from the west to the east across Lithuania, watering heavily in many places. Wind at night south 5–10 m/s, during the day west, southwest 7–12 m/s, gusts up to 15 m/s on the coast. 13-15 degrees at night, 16-21 degrees during the day.
Thursday, June 11 without significant rain. The wind is unstable at 5-10 m/s. 6-9 degrees at night, 19-23 degrees during the day.
