BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 4. Russian President
Vladimir Putin thanked President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for his
assistance in delivering humanitarian aid to Iran, Russian
President Vladimir Putin said in response to a question from
AZERTAC Chairman of the Board Vugar Aliyev at a meeting with
representatives of international news agencies as part of the 29th
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Trend reports.
“”We are very grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for helping us
send humanitarian aid to Iran. The Azerbaijani side has worked hard
and effectively in this regard, responding promptly to all our
requests, and this is crucial for easing the situation in this area
as well,” he said.
“There are many issues of mutual interest between Baku and
Moscow in the logistics sector. The most well-known is the
North-South corridor with access to Iran. Now, of course, all of
this has come to a standstill due to the events surrounding Iran,
but, nevertheless, all of this is of mutual interest. We are very
grateful to President Ilham Aliyev for helping us send humanitarian
aid to Iran. The Azerbaijani side has worked hard and effectively
in this regard, responding promptly to all our requests, and this
is crucial for easing the situation in this area as well”.
Putin emphasized that there are very good and friendly relations
with Azerbaijan.
“There always have been, and still are, both in the economic and
political spheres. A couple of years ago, we signed a strategic
cooperation agreement, and that’s how our relationship has been
developing. President Ilham Aliyev is investing considerable effort
into giving this agreement concrete content. This is reflected in
specific areas of our cooperation. In my opinion, we have
accumulated investments of somewhere over 10 billion Russian rubles
in the Azerbaijani economy. A large number of companies work with
Russian capital. We cooperate closely on humanitarian issues. A
large number of Azerbaijanis work in Russia. They donate funds and
money to support their families. And we strive to organize this in
a proper, civilized manner,” President of Russia said.
Speaking about trade turnover, the Russian leader noted that it
is growing and additional opportunities for mutual supply of goods
are opening up.
“We have negotiations underway in a number of specific areas. It
is still premature to speak about this. This concerns the energy
sector first and foremost. I will meet with President Aliyev, and
we will certainly discuss all of this. Overall, I believe that the
relationship between the two sides is developing, and is developing
in a very positive way,” Putin emphasized.
