Killer of Sgt. Sitek Still at Large as Polish Services Target Political Opponents

Two years have passed since the fatal attack on Polish soldier Sgt. Mateusz Sitek at the Polish-Belarusian border. The perpetrator was a foreign national linked to illegal migration on Poland’s eastern border. Despite the passage of time, he has not been captured by Polish services.

More than two years ago, on May 28, another attempt to breach the border by illegal migrants from the Middle East, supported by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko, took place at the Polish-Belarusian border. However, that morning, near the village of Dubicze Cerkiewne, a Polish soldier on duty at the border was seriously injured. The 21-year-old Mateusz Sitek was stabbed with a knife containing a toxic substance, improvised and attached to a long pole resembling a spear. The attacker was one of the migrants attempting to cross into Poland.

The soldier, in very serious condition with wounds to the chest area, was first transported to a hospital in Hajnówka and then to the Military Medical Institute in Warsaw. Despite several days of fighting for his life and undergoing surgery, Mateusz Sitek died on June 6.

Michał Rachoń, in his morning program on TV Republika, recalled that this was the first case in many years in which a Polish soldier died while defending the country.

The station also revisited comments made by politicians, commentators, and celebrities following the young man’s death.

The broadcast also recalled a statement by Gen. Arkadiusz Szkutnik, who commanded the operation at the border at the time, speaking about the perpetrator.

“This individual has been identified. We have his photo, we know where he has been and where he appears. New signals indicate that he was recently in Western European countries, including France and Belgium,” he said in an interview with wp.pl.

At the time, he announced that it was only a matter of time before the suspect would be detained. Other media outlets reported details about the suspect and his possible accomplices, yet despite the passing of two years, no arrest has been made to this day.

The case was also examined by the Niezalezna.pl portal, which in recent days attempted to establish details regarding the ongoing investigation.

    Identified suspect

The aggressor was reportedly Mohammad T., whose photo and personal details he shared on social media circulated among soldiers and officers. He is a Moroccan guide who studied in Lebanon. The man has distinctive tattoos. He is suspected of possibly being involved in smuggling illegal migrants.

These details were published one week after the death of Sgt. Mateusz Sitek.

“For two years, we have known nothing more about this case. What we do know, however, is that Polish services are engaged in searching worldwide not for this specific man, this specific murderer, nor for individuals who may have knowledge about him (…), but in pursuing the political opponents of the government – Marcin Romanowski, Zbigniew Ziobro, and Michał Kuczmierowski,” Michał Rachoń concluded.

“The killer of Sgt. Sitek remains at large,” he added.
